About the Cryptozoa White Raven logo
A touch of Native American mysticism doesn’t hurt anyone…;)
After a long night of preparing for the upcoming trial with my lawyer I drove my silver Suburu WRX into the garage, and hit the remote to close the garage door.
I had been fighting my former employers for the past 3 years. I owed my lawyers over $100 grand. They were “kind” enough to extend me credit to pay for my case, with the understanding that when (if) we won, they would be compensated.
$100,000 in debt, with more to come.
I sat in the dark of my garage, a single bulb illuminating the aging plywood and two-by-fours. After I don’t know how many minutes it just dawned on me that the engine was still running, the smell of exhaust filling the air.
I’ve never been truly suicidal.
I used to walk up to the edges of buildings, but really it was just to feel the tingle of vertigo. I would think of all the people who would be sad at my passing. And then I’d walk away from the edge, happy to be alive.
This was much the same.
But I knew I could simply open the window a crack, and let nature take its course.
Inside of me, though, is a touch of madness. I have a streak of defiance that rises unexpectedly. When someone tells me what to do, if I find it unreasonable I will defy it till my dying day.
To give in, and let the exhaust(ion) take hold would be a kind of giving in.
So, I turned off the engine, and stepped out of the car.
Freedom
Just for the record, it sucks being sued by a multimillion dollar corporation! But I feel we gave as good as we took, and, as they say, the only winners in a lawsuit are the lawyers.
Since then my modus operandi has been to seek freedom, from corporations, from the authority of the state, from debt and financial obligations.
To that end I live in a Yurt that cost me $77k, with zero debt, no electricity costs (Solar), with my sole running costs are water from the town ($34/month), and fast wifi ($64/month).
I own my truck, a 1992 Toyota Pickup (pre-Tacoma) called Rocinante, which just ticked over 300k miles. I told a mechanic guy, and his response, “Is that all?”
I dance into town to pay my $238 yearly tax bill.
World Travel
After I won the case, paid off my lawyers and settled debts, I went traveling through South America, China, Southeast Asia, then back to the US to explore the American Southwest.

While in Peru, I decided I needed a personal symbol, an image to remind me of what I seek. I designed a white raven based on a Native American myth, and I’m sorry I do not know from which tribe it hails.
“According to Native American legend, Raven was originally white and had a beautiful voice. Unfortunately, the Gods were unhappy with the greed and corruption on earth and decided to take away the fire. Without heat, the earth was turning into a frigid hell.
“Raven volunteered to fly to the sun and bring back the fire. Up he flew with a branch in his bill. As he neared the sun his feathers were all singed and his larynx was half-cooked, but the branch ignited.
“Raven returned to earth a hero, but became shy and reclusive because of his blackened feathers and the loss of his beautiful voice.
“From that day on, all Ravens were black, but occasionally a white offspring is born to remind everyone of the great sacrifice made by Raven.” ~ from https://www.reshareworthy.com/white-ravens/
I took from the legend of the White Raven, that despite the corruption of the world, the White Raven had the willingness to bring fire and warmth back to the earth.
It also transformed to become a symbol of freedom for me. Even as I traverse the land of darkness within me is the purest white of freedom, of positivity, of essential goodness.
It also represents for me the freedom from financial obligations, of banks owning the roof you live under, and how justice is for the rich, while the poor just take what they can get.
All during my trial I always had a 6 figure salary. It was a job I hated. It was the only way I could pay to get a decent team of lawyers, for, by the end, I had 3 lawyers. And 2 paralegal interns. Against a team of corporate lawyers from one of the top corporate law firms in the nation arrayed against me.
Someone who lacks the means to fight cannot fight.
So, this is my manifesto, my symbol: the White Raven. Representing freedom in all its forms. The Power of doing good. Selfless service to others.
And now I share it with Team Cryptozoa.
